A collection to create tactile and moving garments to represent an intangible feeling in life
I found artists like Rebecca horn resonated with my search and understanding of myself and the space around me. Similarly music artists emphasising change, reflected the themes of difference and finding my place growing up as the child of an immigrant in the UK. After my first Jade bangle from my grandmother broke, I began collecting more in attempt to nurture my heritage whilst I physically existed in the doldrums of a highly discriminatory English town. Using circles and layered shapes, I’ve stretched and crumpled a tangled bubble around myself to represent the mental protection I needed to develop throughout my life.
I command my chaos in a controlled and structural form, black and white like the magpie, balancing perceptions like the yin and yang. My collection is a sculptural manipulation of circular form like the bangles, expressed through crushed and crumpled pieces of reclaimed nylon net mesh turned into dresses, abstract blouses, sheer textures as well as the tactile comfort of soft black jersey material.
